What do you do on a daily basis?

I manage our Sensor division in the UK which is growing quickly and currently consists of just under 20 members – I use my experience to help to coach and advise all members of the team in order to help them progress in their role as direct sales representatives. This involves joining them on the road visiting customers, providing feedback and guidance over phone calls and video calls and helping form a strategy that can make them successful. I also continue to work as a Key Account Manager responsible for all Jaguar Land Rover sites in UK to help grow our sales of sensors and safety products into JLR and their supply chain.

How has your role changed since starting?

It has changed significantly from when I started at KEYENCE as a Sales Engineer. My role then was to cover a territory in the Midlands and grow sales of our Factory Automation equipment through proactive phone calls and meetings with customers to show them our equipment and explain how it can help improve their processes. All of my time then was focused on my territory and my customers whereas my time is now spent helping the team sell more across the UK and less focused on selling equipment myself.

How did you learn the technical side of the role?

I had 6 weeks of intensive technical product training when I joined KEYENCE which gave me the fundamental technical knowledge that I required to get out on the road and impress customers with demonstrations of our products. Following training, I continued to hone my technical skills in the office with regular roleplay practice and customer sample testing to keep improving my technical knowledge.

How would you describe our working culture?

Very collaborative, engaging and challenging. There is a lot of working together across different product divisions to help each other find potential sales opportunities. It is a hardworking culture with ambitious growth targets which means that a high level of effort and activity are required to be successful. The culture challenges employees to push themselves to unleash their full potential which has created fantastic results over many years.

What is your favourite thing about your role?

I enjoy how tangible it is for us to be able to take our products to our customers so that we can show and explain to them how we can make their processes more efficient. I also like how varied the role is with regards to the number of different types of company that we work with and the combination of days in the office and days on the road.

Any advice to potential applicants

If you are ambitious and hard-working with a competitive mindset, looking to work for a growing company in a customer-facing role with the ability to progress quickly, KEYENCE is the company for you!
